Our Team of Advisers

In addition to the wonderful storytellers we work with, we are delighted to introduce the team of highly experienced literacy professionals working so hard behind the scenes. They are responsible for all of the lesson planning and pedagogy behind the CPD we offer.

Eve Bearne
Eve is an educational researcher and writer who has recently retired from the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education. Her research interests began with writing, then extended to children’s production of multimodal texts and gender, language and literacy. She has written and edited many books about language, literacy and children’s literature and is currently responsible for Publications for the United Kingdom Literacy Association.

Teresa Crane

Teresa has worked for many years as a teacher in Devon and Worcestershire before becoming a Literacy Consultant with the National Literacy Strategy. She has worked in that capacity for ten years and been involved in a number of school-based projects across Worcestershire including ongoing work around the development of visual literacy. She has worked closely with QCA to develop APP materials in reading and writing and has recently run an APP speaking and listening pilot in collaboration with Janet White, an independent English consultant. She is also an active member of UKLA.

Pam Dowson
Pam took early retirement from Primary teaching in 2009 and has been teaching English on the Primary PGCE at Cambridge, initially as a seconded teacher, for the past 5 years where she also has the roles of personal and placement tutor. She gained an advanced diploma in Language, Literature and Literacy, and a Masters degree in children’s literature, both from the University of Cambridge. Her first book – The Really Useful Creativity Book, which she co-wrote with Dominic Wyse, was published by Routledge last year and she is currently working on several titles for Scholastic, as well as doing some consultancy work in primary schools. She is an active member of the UKLA, being on the editorial board of English 4-11 and a member of the Publications Committee, where she acts as editor for the ‘Ideas in Practice’ series.

Rebecca Harriss

Rebecca has spent the past ten years working in London schools, initially as a class teacher, then in the role of Key Stage 1 Coordinator. During this time she became inspired by the idea of improving children’s writing by using drama, music and art. Now Rebecca works closely with a London school to improve writing with small targeted groups of children.

Rebecca Kennedy

Rebecca has worked as a teacher, consultant and regional adviser with the Primary National Strategies and is now an independent consultant. She works with GTP trainees in Birmingham where she leads the English training programme and acts as a tutor. She also works with various local authorities supporting schools and teachers. She is currently engaged in two exciting projects: one with Birmingham LA looking at how languages teaching can be linked to literacy in KS2 and one with Wolverhampton LA exploring reading on screen with Y6 and Y7. She is an active member of the UKLA and a member of the editorial board of English 4-11 and she is working with other UKLA members on research into the impact of the Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge.
