Effua Daniels

Effie was born in Ghana, West Africa and came to the UK at the age of three. Though she was never a strong reader, she always had a keen interest in stories, particularly audio and oral story telling. She would write short stories for her friends in secondary school, each week bringing the next episode. Most of her spare time was spent in her local library, exploring children’s books and entertaining staff by acting out crazy made up stories with her friend, now known as the comedian Jocelyn Jee.

After finishing College, Effua eventually began working with children in childcare and moved on to become a children’s librarian. In 2001, she began to write scripts and stories for the Cbeebies children’s series ‘Story Makers’. Whilst Effua still works with children and families, she also freelances in story telling and training consultancy across the UK.

She specializes in original and creative sharing of oral and written multi-cultural stories and traditional folk tales. Effua writes and tells many of her own stories, creating bespoke storytelling sessions to support themes and special events whilst intertwining the richness of African culture and heritage.

Interactive tailor made sessions encourage the development of a positive self-image, through the celebration of traditional culture, expression and diversity. They incorporate lively audience participation and aim to help people of all ages enjoy the art of storytelling.
